This one was a tough one but very good. 5 Stars. This is the story of Jack. Jack wants to be a writer. Jack helps smuggle drugs into New York City. Jack goes to federal prison. Jack sees horrible things and experiences horrible fear. This is the real story of Jack Gantos.

Very interesting and compelling story , Gantos lays it on the line about his stint in prison and the dumb mistakes at a young age he did to land him there . Honest and straight forward . Yet he went on to become a super funny Author and write good books like he always wanted to . Check out some of the fiction books he's authored , they are quite humorous .

This is the ideal autobiography. It is honest, relatable, and Gantos has a true sense of humor: I rarely laugh from books and this one had me laughing 4 different times! A truly interesting account that leaves me sympathizing with those trying to survive the criminal "justice" system.

One summer can change your life. The summer that changed everything for Jack was 1971. Jack knew he wanted to go to college, he just didn't have the money. So when the opportunity to make ten thousand dollars came along, he just couldn't turn it down. All he had to do was help sail a boat from the Virgin Islands to New York City. Now if that seems too good to be true, well it was. The boat was transporting drugs. It wasn't long until Jack was arrested and sent to prison. It was during his time in prison that Jack began to really evaluate his life and started to make positive choices. This book offers a very real look at prison and can be graphic at times.
