I already knew of Donna Leon's Venetian Commissario Brunetti. Recent travels to Italy made me look further for good mysteries with Italian settings. I have found Magdalen Nabb, who uses the city of Florence; and Grace Brophy, who writes about Commissario Cenni in Assisi. All great writers, but Brophy has an especially wicked way of describing Italian politics as they affect every aspect of Cenni's investigations.
