I watched it long time ago but had no memory of it. So I tried to watch again. This animation is bizarre. But from the fantasy standpoint it’s an ok movie with nice caricature.

The phantasy of this animated film is really something else: on the face of it its ridiculous (a person meets a talking cat, and helps it, and then gets rewarded by things only cats would like and a by a trip to the cat kingdom), but turns into a paean to unique individuality against conformity and comfort.

A spinoff of "Whisper of the Heart", this film focuses on Haru, a young girl with a half-forgotten ability to talk to cats, and her exciting adventure in a magical realm known as the Kingdom of Cats. The "Whisper" tie-in revolves around the Baron, a character first introduced in that earlier movie that is a statue come to life. The enchantment of this story lies in the imaginative fantasy world that is created and the continuation of the theme of self-confidence from the earlier film.

I absolutely love this movie. Both English and Japanese voice casts deliver extremely well in this wonderful fantasy flick. A girl with her head in the clouds and a crush on an inaccessible boy in her class has her life changed when she rescues a cat. Like most Ghibli fantasies, this one does get pretty wild as it gets closer and closer to its climax. I would've given this a 4, but... I am in love with Cary Elwes's voice. 5 Stars.

While a weaker Ghibli effort, this is still a cute adventure. I imagine younger kids and cat lovers will get the most out of it.

What I liked:
* the cats
* the originality
* the gentle tone of the beginning and ending

What I disliked:
* the harshness of the middle section--it didn't match the gentle tone of the beginning and ending
* the body shaming "jokes"

Light movie..gives a secret message to girls to have confidence in themselves ...loved The Baron...I wish Ghibli Studio comes up with more movies about The Baron

I wasn't expecting a Studio Ghibli film to diverge so much from their traditional style, but the movie stands alone as a reminder that change is good as an artist.
