Great adaptation of Loretta Lynn's background! This is a movie my mom and I quote at each other quite frequently, because there are some really funny moments.

GREAT bio-pic (one of the best ever!) of Loretta Lynn. All the production elements of this film were terrific. Sissy (Mary Elizabeth) Spacek was terrific in her portrayal of Lorreta. And I particularly enjoyed the Southern country accent in Tommy Lee Jones' speaking lines. Oh, I did just check and he was born/lived in Texas so I guess he knows how it goes/sounds.
I do enjoy and appreciate Loretta's contributions to rise of country music - radio, television, recordings, etc.
I did read some background on her, and when she moved to Warshington (don't forget the invisible 'r') it was to the small logging town of Custer at bit west of Lynden, WA.
This was a terrific movie, sophisticated in portraying Loretta, Mooney, their family relationships, country music show biz - everything...
Glad I gave it a watch!!!

This movie stands the test of time. There are impressive performances all around. but, what is amazing is Sissy's singing; how she manages to sound as good as Lorretta is phenomenal.

Sissy Spacek is simply incredible in Coal Miner Daughter. She looks like Loretta Lynn and she sings with the same beautiful voice. It is a same that Sissy never did another singing role. Loretta Lynn could not ask for a better portrayal of her life than Coal Miners Daughter. This is when Country Music was in its early stages of popularity. Thanks in part to this movie, that was soon to change!

Excellent movie and a terrific soundtrack. Sissy Spacek who plays Loretta Lynn and Beverly D'Angelo who plays Patsy Cline do all their own signing. The scenes from Appalachia, early in the movie, are heart wrenching due the poverty that folks faced. Sissy also won the Oscar for best actress in this 1980 film.

Great cast in a very good film. I liked the first 60% of the film the best showing Loretta's roots and life before success. After she starts to make it, it becomes the same old story, not that that is the fault of the film makers.
