Poorly written (I'd say "potboiler" but it's too lukewarm for that). If you look at the number of novels Forbes wrote, you'll see the list is close to thirty in length. This one was published shortly after Forbes died at the age of 83. Perhaps quality had long since given way to quantity (like the insufferable James Patterson) and I should have started with one of his earlier books.
