With the same drug-addled alacrity and jaundiced wit that made Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas a hilarious hit, Hunter S. Thompson turns his savage eye and gonzo heart to the repellent and seductive race for President. He deconstructs the 1972 campaigns of idealist George McGovern and political hack Richard Nixon, ending up with a political vision that is eerily prophetic.A classic!

Along with "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," this is probably his best, most sustained, & influential work. A wild, messy, impressionistic account of the 1972 campaign, this is far from objective journalism, but it captures a certain noxious, bloody, bitter political atmosphere that is still with us. What's often forgotten is how insightful and lucid Thompson's writing could be, although readers looking for flashes of druggy madness & alcohol fueled rage won't be disappointed. Featuring illustrations by Ralph Steadman. Also check out the documentary "Gonzo."

The library tries to order more copies of books that have no more copies and still have holds. Looks like 5 more copies were ordered of this title.

The library buys both eBook and print copies of many titles. Despite the rapid relative growth of eBook usage the print book collection is still a much larger collection of titles, both new and old.

I will return this soon, I swear - it's a dense read, but worth it for any student of politics or journalism. The man was a genius - an insane, disjointed, wordy bastard - but a genius nonetheless.
