"In the year's most action-packed sci-fi adventure, Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ) stars as a futuristic soldier who crash lands on Earth with a hellish, fire-breathing monster in a time of warring Viking tribes. Fusing advanced technology with Iron Age weaponry, he must unite the fierce Vikings and hunt the bloodthirsty beast before it kills them all. Featuring Ron Perlman (Hellboy films), Sophia Myles (Underworld films), and John Hurt (Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull), Outlander is 'visually spectacular' (Michael Wilmington, Chicago Daily Herald), combining stunning special effects, fast-paced action, and a fantastic story to explosive effect."--Container.

That poor horse. This is a great terrible movie. If you like gory close-ups of decapitated neck stumps and CGI monster slime, you'll love this movie. When it's not being a gross version of Godzilla, it's got a lot of cheesy charm like BBC Merlin, only if the BBC professionals had never got involved. There are some prize-winning actors here, the two guys are very handsome, the plot zings along while being silly as heck at the same time. Our time-travelling spaceman lands in Norway, it's a cross between the Bronze Age and 1950, and becomes a big hero to the local yokels. (Thank goodness he's an experienced horseback rider, even though we didn't see any horses in flashbacks to his space-home-town. Most people after the first day would have been too saddlesore to stand up and fight anybody.)

Pro tip: if you kill off all her family and friends, the chick has no other movie options except to fall in love with YOU! needless to say, film does not pass Bechdel test. I recommend watching if you are ill or inebriated.

March 15, 2016.....well, when I keep looking to see how many minutes are left, I guess it's not so great. I did like Jack Huston's acting, reminded me of Errol Flynn, and Johnny Depp. If you like watching movies where all the action happens in the dark, and you can't really see anything.....this one is for you! I still have to get to Newfoundland someday, and now I want to go and see the Viking ship that they burnt at the end of the movie. The scenery was great, (I wonder if that waterfall was real?) but there really wasn't much of it, more shots of bloody body parts thrown in than anything. The cover says 'Beowulf meets Predator'. That pretty much sums it up!

Far-fetched sci-fi flick that has decent action & CG sequences but not much more. Can't really recommend this one.

Not that good. Predictable plot; terrible CGI.

Very good ! ...and the invention of a new genre... "Swords and Sci-fi" !!,... My low expectations and a willingness to have fun helped me enjoy this well crafted adventure romp. Great production values, effective acting, a dynamicly original CGI monster, and a 'ripping' good classical yarn. ( ie. spaceship + Vikings ="Beowolf" ...revisited & revamped. "Beowolf" is one of the great grandfathers of all epic story-telling)

Predictable. Special effects are not very good.

Better than I expected in every way. Great special effects and action. Beautiful scenery and good costumes, weapons and settings. I enjoyed pretty much everything about this movie.
