This book was fantastic. I hope that Chuck Black keeps writing, because, we'll keep reading. This is our first book. My sons who are 6 and 4 listened. The first chapter had a lot of large words, but after that it wasn't too difficult anymore. My six year old is very smart and paid close attention and got a lot out of it. I think that this book is good for 6 and up. It was a great way for my four year old to fall asleep (he sleeps now as we finished the last chapter). This is how we read the Chronicles of Narnia too when my oldest was five. He would listen and my four year old would sleep. :)
