Add a CommentA good, concise, book that will tell you all you need to know about one of the great composers of the classical or indeed any era. The essay on child prodigies was helpful. Also the section of the historical era was enlightening.
Understanding the provisos mentioned in the introduction, this an excellent work for its kind. A chronological account of the life and its impingement upon the compositions. Excellent glossary and discussion of the works included on the accompanying CDs. It could have included a musical chronology like the book on Chopin in the same series, but in a moments reflection one realizes that it would be a 300 page book rather than a 30 page appendix.
A wonderful, informative book.
A must-read for all musicians!
