Interesting and intriging. . . . keeps you reading
As a children's librarian I read a considerable amount of Juvenile fiction. In my other life I read a lot of mystery novels. This book was amazing from both perspectives.
Eoin Colfer (sounds like Owen, if you've ever wondered) has really nailed the voice and tone of a hard-boiled private detective, trapped in the body and world of a twelve year old kid. The first person narration is brilliant and sarcastic with many witty quips and comebacks.
The mystery itself is a well written, crazy, yet within the realm of possibility, puzzle that will keep readers guessing with dead ends and plenty of Red herrings. But all the clues are therefor the reader and they do add up in the end.
This was a pure delight for me. I think children and adults who enjoy a good mystery and a bit of humor will very much enjoy this novel.
One of the best, laugh-out-loud funny kid's book I've read in a while. Yes, it might be cheesy for the 12+ crowd (in response to earlier comments), but this adult highly enjoyed it, while disturbing the silence of the break room at work because I couldn't contain the giggles in some parts.
I think this would have been interesting if I was, like, 5 years younger...
But I'm not, so I didn't. Definitely for younger kids around 8-10-ish. If you're older, I don't think you would find this interesting. Most of the characters of this book are in the 10-12 years old range, so...
Pretty Good book
cool and awesome!
This book is definitely suited for a very young audience. If you're older you'll find this a pretty boring and cheesy book.
