A young friend pulls Scotland Yard's Richard Jury into the life--and death--of a wealthy bachelor.

The once-charismatic Billy Maples was last seen in a club named Dust, before his murder in a trendy London hotel. Proving as inscrutable, and challenging, to Jury as the case is the beautiful chief inspecting officer.

Before his death, Maples was a patron of London's finest art galleries and caretaker of author Henry James's house in Rye. It's there where Jury installs Melrose Plant, who takes his job to heart, as Jury closes in on the dark secrets behind Maples's friends and family.

I have read and adored every Martha Grimes "Jury" mystery up until "The Old Wine Shades. I thought that odd book was a fluke. Nope, "Dust" is even more infuriating.

Thank you fellow OPLers for the suggestion that Grimes is no longer writing these. Never thought of that. I find it somehow comforting.

Not a good read, please don't waste your time! Couldn't make it to the end.

What the...? I love Richard Jury, but I don't love him in this book. I actually researched online because I didn't understand the ending. To my relief, it's a common problem; other people shared the feeling that their copy was missing pages or something. The Internet community disagrees about whodunnit and but reaches a consensus to declare the whole plot frustrating and not enjoyable. My favourite theory is that Grimes didn't write this book at all (a computer, maybe?). Anyways, you've been warned.
