Wow, The Witches has got to be my favourite book ever. It was so smartly written that I honestly thinking Roald Dahl is some sort of genius! The Witches is a book about a young boy who lives with his grandmother since he lost his parents. His grandmother has told him stories of witches, evil women who kidnap and hate children; they wear square-fronted heels because they have no toes, and their spit is blue, and they wear wigs to cover their bald heads. One day, whilst the protagonist and his grandmother are on vacation, Bruno finds himself in the middle of the biggest witch meeting and hears their plan to turn children into mice. When he is discovered behind the stage curtain, the Witches use him as their experiment and he is turned into a mouse. If Bruno and his Grandmother don’t take down the Grand High Witch… you could be next. I love love love this book, highly recommend! Rating 5/5

I read this to my 7-year-old daughter and she loved it. It was a little scary with witches disposing of children in a variety of delightful ways (turning them to mice being one of them) but if you have a child who likes a bit of a fright, this is a good choice. Keep in mind it's a classic, so it has a bit of a harsher tone than some of the newer fiction for young children (for example, the word "stupid" is used a few times, which you hardly ever see in a book for young children anymore. It's a lot of fun to read aloud, and if you enjoy the book, there is also a relatively amusing movie to go along with it.
BEST BOOK EVER!!!! When I read it I read it agein.
Amazing book, I really recommend it. 😁😁😁
I adored this book as a child and love it just as much in adulthood. A less known classic of Roald Dahl's.
I liked this book because it had a very adventurous theme. I liked the part the witch took her mask of and showed her real face.
awsome action book for kids
This book is great but if you wish to watch the movie..............................BEWARE it's really REALLY CREEPY! I loved the quote when he and his grandma say" My darling," she said at last," are you sure you don't mind being a mouse for the rest of your life?" " I don't mind at all," I said. " It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like so long as some body loves you."The Witches Hope you read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read this out loud to a class of first graders, they found hysterical (I enjoyed using voices!). The kids didn't seem to find it scary but, it had been a long time since I had read it and I found it terrifying!
